   Discipline and Communication

Discipline

The school has always set very high expectations for its students' discipline and their behavioural development, and it encourages good manners and self-discipline. All School Rules and Regulations appear in the Students' Manual which is given to students at the beginning of each academic year. School Regulations must be fully respected by every student of the G C School of Careers, and it is each student's responsibility to know and abide by them throughout the school year. All rules and regulations are in effect during School hours on School grounds, on School buses and during School trips. Each student is responsible for his/her own personal conduct at all times.

The School encourages every student to develop a sense of responsibility. A high standard of conduct is expected of every student at all times, and, to this end, the full co-operation of parents is essential.

While the School aims at inculcating self-discipline, a disciplinary code would be impractical if it did not provide punishments aimed at reforming habitual offenders and maintaining discipline and order in the School. These punishments range from reprimand by the Principal or teachers to more serious punishments decided upon by the Disciplinary Committee.

Supervision of Progress

The School Management structure has been designed to facilitate the supervision of progress, through the monitoring system of Form Teachers, Heads of Departments, and Guidance Counsellors.

A Form Teacher is assigned to each Form. His/her responsibilities include solving academic or disciplinary problems within the class and offering practical advice. In cases where a problem persists, the Co-ordinator of Form Teachers is consulted. If the problem is still not resolved, then it is taken up by the Principal.

Students are constantly advised and supervised by their Form Teachers on the following matters:

•  general behaviour , including what constitutes courtesy ;

•  general appearance and conformity with the School Uniform Regulations;

•  rules governing t ardiness and absenteeism;

•  importance of being organized ;

•  procedure to be followed if class problems arise ;

•  consequences in case of misdemeanour(s) .

Any academic problems of students noticed by the Form Teachers may be referred to the appropriate Head of Department. Academic difficulties or disciplinary offences of any nature are monitored on a daily basis, and parents are notified, in writing, every two weeks. In more serious cases, parents are notified instantly.
