On Friday, 20 and Saturday, 21 April, seventy-seven Year 3 students participated in the annual sponsored 30 hour Fundraiser organised by the Geography Department. Their generosity surpassed previous years as they collected a total of 3,900 euros. Sixty-three of the students stayed at school for the duration of the 30 hours, abstaining from normal meals in order to empathize with those less fortunate than themselves.
During the evening, Mr Soctrates Rossides, founder of the Rhea Foundation, was invited to give a talk about the past and future initiatives of the NGO in rural Tanzania. This year the students unanimously agreed that the money should go towards the medical expenses and recuperation for 7-year-old Lazaro. Lazaro was born with swelling in the brain that affects his vision because his mother had chronic malaria when she was pregnant. We look forward to further updates from the foundation about Lazaro once his treatment has been completed.
