Our school has been selected to participate in the Junior Achievement Sci-Tech Challenge 2024, and we are proud to inform you that it has been awarded 3rd place in the National Sci-Tech Challenge 2024. Five Chemistry students from Form 5, namely Andreas Christou, Giorgos Papacharalambous, Ioli Demetriou, Orestis Stylianides, and Stefanos Constantinou, were chosen to represent the school in the competition. They were tasked with researching and developing a business idea that focuses on making homes more sustainable and energy efficient. Within a six-hour timeframe, they had to prepare and present their ideas.
The Sci-Tech Challenge is a program that has been running in Europe since 2010, and it is now in its fourth consecutive year in Cyprus, implemented by Junior Achievement Cyprus and their partners, ExxonMobil Cyprus.
The Sci-Tech Challenge aims to motivate students aged 15-18 to consider career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Its goal is to raise awareness of the importance of STEM skills and how they can be applied in resourceful ways to address the challenges of tomorrow.
On March 14th, a classroom visit was conducted by an ExxonMobil mentor who informed our Form 5 Chemistry students about STEM education. The speech was followed by a workshop during which students had to devise a solution to improve energy efficiency in the schools of the future. Groups consisting of 5 or 6 members were formed to discuss and present their findings. Subsequently, five students were selected to represent our school at the National Sci-Tech Challenge 2024 on March 20th.
