On the 24th of October 2022, the University of Cyprus (Erasmus+ SEISMO-Lab Project) in collaboration with the Geography Department, installed a Raspberry Shake seismometer in our school. There are 11 such recording stations located in Cyprus. These low cost stations are part of a global network of stations installed to help researchers and students improve monitoring of earthquakes. The devastating earthquakes that occurred on Monday 6th of February measured 7.8 and 7.5 and affected large areas of Turkey and Syria. The seismograph recordings below show the comparison between the strength of the seismic waves and their duration. The first shows the recording near the earthquake’s epicentre in Turkey’s Gaziantep province and the second shows the recording from the school’s seismometer.
