The curriculum and the course of studies for every subject taught, is defined and supervised by the GCS Academic Departments. The Heads of Departments are appointed by the School Management and they are responsible for co-ordinating and supervising members of the Staff within their Department. Their duties include, among others, allocating responsibilities to teachers, inspecting students’ marks and progress, suggesting solutions to problems faced, and communicating with students/parents whenever an academic issue arises.

The Head of a Department monitors changes in the syllabus, textbooks, exam techniques and methodologies and makes sure that they are implemented by the teachers of the Department. The Head is also aware of career prospects concerning his/her subject and prepares the syllabus time-plan in a way to ensure that all material is covered, teachers teaching the same level work at the same pace, and that the same material is taught in all Year groups.
